Dietary Investigation for Food Intolerance

 

Before embarking on the low allergy diet, take a note of your existing dietary habits.  Studies have shown that dietary histories obtained by recall are notoriously unreliable, so a prospective seven day food dairy – in chich you record everything that passes your lips – is advised.  Apart from providing:

 

i)              the basis for accurate nutritional assessment it will

ii)            reveal whether your have cravings for any particular foods. 

 

Remember to include everything: main meals, snacks, biscuits, savouries, fruit, sweets, chocolate, tea, coffee, soft drinks, milk etc.

 

 

 

TOP TIPS FOR FIGHTING FOOD ALLERGIES

 

Eliminate problem foods - As a first step, avoid the five most common problem groups:

 

1.     Wheat bran and wheat-based breakfast cereals

2.     Bread, cakes, pastry and biscuits

3.     Food additives such as flavour enhancer E621 monosodium glutamate,  preservative E250 sodium nitrite and colourings E110 sunset yellow and E102 tartrazine

4.     Cow's milk and cow's milk cheese

5.     Sugar and sugary foods

 

These items cause symptoms in so many people that it really is worth trying to manage without them.  You may get an early and effective improvement and have no need to take you food sleuthing any further

 

If you feel no better after 2 weeks, continue to stay off the first group and began to eliminate the second five culprits
