An old fashioned Welsh Remedy

Plants and Herbs are the basis of all today’s pharmaceutical drugs. But not all OLDEN remedies are the best:

An old welsh remedy -

Snail juice would be used for the eyes and would be dropped in. The logic was that the eye was wet like the snail juice.

But today’s recommendation for:

Red Itchy Eyes

Herbs: A number of herbs are traditionally used to treat eye inflammations. To avoid infection, all preparations must be boiled and kept sterile before applying to the eyes. Calendula, eyebright, and chamomile are used to help reduce the swelling and redness when applied topically. Comfrey is a soothing herb used for conjunctivitis. Goldenseal and Oregon grape are anti-microbials and should be applied only if the cause is an infection. It is important to work with a doctor.

Nettle leaf can help with slight reduction in symptoms of hay fever—including sneezing and itchy eyes.

Homeopathic remedies:

· Argentum-metallicum: for when the eyes are better in open fresh air

· Allium cepa: For acute symptoms of hay fever, especially those accompanied by profuse watering of the eyes and irritation, burning catarrh.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)

Is the leading cause of blindness in the developed world. Deterioration of the eyes may be caused by oxidative stress, smoking, obesity and sub-optimal nutritional status – ALL modifiable factors that can be improved with positive diet and lifestyle changes.

Studies continue to show the value of the macular carotenoids and specific antioxidants for the protection and health of the macula and vision in general.

The new reformulated Vision Plus contains the technologically advanced carotenoid extract Lutemax 2020.

Featuring 20mg of Lutemax 2020 per serving - containing lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin. These macular carotenoids are powerful free radical scavengers, protecting the photoreceptor cell layer from light damage.

Research and epidemiological evidence continues to show that the higher the level of macular pigments, the lower the risk of developing AMD.

Exciting new studies have shown that supplementation with the macular carotenoids lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin, may also help to support symptoms of sub-optimal emotional and physical health.

Vision Plus also features 500mg vitamin C, together with zinc and vitamin E, nutrients studied extensively for their role in eye health. These nutrients, in combination with copper, provide a powerful antioxidant formula, that may help to protect the eyes from free radical damage.

Vitamin C recycles vitamin E, and is necessary for collagen production and the normal functioning of blood vessels.

Zinc is highly concentrated in the retina, indicating the importance of zinc to eye function. It is thought that zinc interacts with taurine in the photoreceptors of the eye. Zinc is also required for the functioning of retinal dehydrogenase, the enzyme which converts retinol to retinal, the form of vitamin A used in the eye.

Provides 200mg taurine, of which high concentrations are found in the retina. Taurine is the most abundant amino acid in the eyes. A deficiency of taurine can lead to significant alterations in the structure and function of the retina.

Vision Plus also provides lipoic acid and bilberry – important antioxidants that help to protect against free radical damage

Lipoic acid is unique in that it provides antioxidant protection from both water and fat-soluble free radicals, whilst also enhancing the effects of other antioxidants.
