There’s always many reasons to give up smoking. Why do some methods fail>

· Willpower. This scarcely ever made anyone give up permanently, although it can help on a temporary basis. If you like to smoke, if you enjoy the taste and sensation of smoking and then try to force yourself to stop, what are you actually doing? You are setting up an internal conflict. The conflict which arises whenever you try to make yourself do something you don’t want to do. This causes more tension and more stress. Of-course the more stress you feel, the more urgent is your need to smoke

· Cutting down. Decreasing the number of cigarettes you smoke during a day is very unlikely to help you give up altogether. There are 2 reasons for this.

First you are not actually ridding your body of its nicotine addiction. As the addiction remains with you so does the likelihood that, at any time you may find yourself returning to old habits.

The second reason is a psychological one. When you cut down the amount you smoke, you tend to count the hours – if not the minutes – between cigarettes. By doing this you are filling your mind with thoughts of smoking, whereas, to succeed in giving up once and for all, you really need to spend as little time as possible thinking about the habit

· Nicotine chewing gum or patches OR electrical cigarettes. Unfortunately, like cutting down, it merely prolongs rather than relieves the nicotine craving


Hypnotherapy has a high success rate and those who give up rarely go back to the habit. The reason being that with hypnosis you are not being forced to do something you do not really want to do – not one is pressuring you or trying to exert their will over you. All that is happening is that you are being gently helped ot do something you really want to do. Helped, not COMPELLED.

Another advantage of using hypnosis is that smoking itself is often very closely linked with stress. Most people who smoke started in their teenage years. They were insecure and wanted to appear more adult – cigarettes gave them a false sense of self-assurance. This is repeated when the adult smoker smokes when under stress

Because hypnosis begins by creating a feeling of total relaxation, it is possible at one and the same time to treat the smoking and the nervousness which led to it.

If you smoke 20 cigarettes daily, you probably do not enjoy more than 5 or 6 of them. To risk your health and even your life for something which gives you great pleasure might just be understandable, but to do it for something which is no more than a habit seems foolish in the extreme
